Antique Opaline Glass Vase Depicting Ottoman Moroccan Sultan

Unavailable

Our rare, nineteenth century opaline glass vase of continental origin is finely painted, depicting the figure of a standing Ottoman period Sultan in a garden with fine floral and geometric painted and gilt decorations, wearing either a fez or shashiya, an elegant satchel and dagger.  22.5 in (57 cm) in height.  The subject appears to be Moroccan, Algerian or Tunisian if in fact he's wearing a shashiya.  In good condition, with light scratches and nicks, consistent with age, and only limited wear to the pained decorations.
