14kt gold antique AGATE chatelaine brooch WITH HISTORY Vintage carved tassel Victorian engraved unusual estate heirloom Emeline R. Klippart

What history this pin has!!! This has an extra loop on the back where a chain might have gone to hold necessaires. A fabulous antique mid 1800's piece, this has hand carved banded agate tassels and a large center agate in the main brooch. SOLID 14kt gold. This can be worn as a beautiful brooch or a gold charm could be attached to the loop on the back to make it even more spectacular. It is engraved on the back to Emeline R. Klippart. The family history was that she was born in the 1820's and passed in the early 1900's. Emeline Rahn Klippart was born in Canton, Ohio. Her husband John Hancock Klippart, for nearly twenty-two years served as Secretary of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture. The pin was passed onto the next generation. The daughter's name was Josephine an well respected artist in Columbus Ohio. Emeline Klippart's daughter was a painter and illustrator who specialized in the scientific illustration of Ohio's fishes and birds. Her drawings appeared in publications of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture, an organization for which her father John Hancock Klippart served as secretary. Klippart, who founded the Columbus Watercolor Society, left her teaching position at the Columbus Art School to take charge of the coloring of folio-sized lithographs for the book The Illustration of the Nests and Eggs of the Birds of Ohio. The book was begun by Genevieve Jones, who dreamed of creating a multi-part book that illustrated the nests and eggs of Ohio birds as a complementary volume to J. J. Audubon's Birds of America. She began working on the book in 1879, but died later the same year of typhoid fever.. As a memorial to her daughter, Genevieve's mother Virginia Jones taught herself the lithographic technique and completed the illustrations for the volume. Gennie’s team managed to finish by 1886. Among 53 hand-colored and 37 uncolored copies — of which 26 hand-colored and 8 uncolored survive in England, France, Germany, and the United States of America — To think that this pin with all its history is in such beautiful condition ( less a flea bit on one of the tassels.. see photo) is just amazing. Emeline's husband was not one of great wealth, more of an educational wonder. To think that it an extravagant purchase to have this brooch made, was obviously one of love for his wife. I hope this finds a good home where it will be well loved. This will have to be insured so the prices for anything outide the US are just aproximates.

Because these are vintage estate pieces and are vintage and possibly pre-worn so they are not considered new from the factory…..  Please see photos for any wear or light surface scratches that come with age.☺………………. Sold as is and priced accordingly..  All cufflinks ( unless otherwise specified)  are considered costume jewelry. We don’t polish these previously owned well loved pieces so we can keep the original patina. We try and photograph all of the pieces next to a ruler so you can see the actual size. All jewelry sold as found.

We use the descriptions of any stones from the manufacturers titles when they were first produced. When we refer to the stones as moonstone or jade or garnet, for example, we are using how the original manufacturer of the pieces used them. We cannot guarantee the authenticity of a stone in a costume piece of jewelry. All pieces have been worn at least one time unless otherwise specified.  Although the pieces we carry are unique and interesting they may have a little wear ( if any) but they sure have a lot of love that came with them when they were first purchased way back when.
