Quantity available: 1
In excellent shape, this elegant "vernis martin" coffer bears a graceful chinoiserie moonlight scene of quaint buildings, rocks and plants, with Chinese-style diaper patterns on the sides and a delightful "yin-yang" closure. The "moon" is a disk of mother-of-pearl. Inside are fitted four similarly decorated boxes for playing cards. A truly superb item for a lacquer enthusiast! Coffer is approximately eight inches by 6-1/2 inches by two inches high; boxes are around 3-1/2 inches by 2-3/4 inches by 1-3/8 inches. French, second quarter of the Eighteenth Century.
