VIntage SIGNED Aesthetic Snake BEETLE figural pendant netsuke bead fly insect

What a beautiful piece of signed workmanship this is! One side has the beetle on the leaf and the other is the snake or possibly a caterpillar. There are two holes on the back and it could easily be a pendant or sewn on as a button.It is large ( 2 1/2" x 2") and although a bit strange it is a common piece like the aesthetic movement. During that period in the late 1800's, Darwin's controversial theories on evolution, as well as new botanical discoveries taking place, created quite an interest in the natural world.
