Our antique China trade chest dates from circa 1890 and was made from aromatic camphor wood. Restored and imported from India about 15 years ago. This form of chest was popular in the 19th century for preserving linens and other delicate items, and this chest was likely used along the Silk Road. It was designed in campaign style with removeable trays and compartments almost like a traveling dresser. The inside top panel features three window compartments, with the outer doors featuring intricately carved floral designs, and the center door has a mirror. Stout bail handles on the sides and extensive brass banding at the corners. Measures 34" long by 16" high by 18" deep. Shipping point: Palm Beach, FL.
