Antique Framed Pastoral Scene Photogravure

Unavailable
Antique framed photogravure of a pastoral scene, produced by the Lyday Photogravure Co. According to the Curtis Collection website, a photogravure is "a photographic image produced from an engraving plate. The process is rarely used today due to the costs involved, but it produces prints which have the subtlety of a photograph and the art quality of a lithograph." This photogravure depicts white birch or silver maple trees in the foreground, a shallow stream and pond or lake with cows in the midground, and a small cabin or farmhouse in the background. Colors are predominantly soft greens, grays, whites, yellows, and blues. On the bottom right corner of the image, in white, is the copyright symbol and "Lyday Photogravure Co - 7077". The image is framed in an dark stained and varnished wood frame with a decorative border in relief. The piece measures approximately 17 inches high, 9 inches wide, and .5 inch deep. It is in good condition. The print appears clean. The frame shows some wear but is intact. The corners are held together with small nails. The picture is missing its paper backing. The heavy corrugated backing is held in place with square metal brads. The glass appears old, has some small scrapes in the lower right corner, but is free of chips or cracks. Please refer to the 4 photographs for appearance and condition. Shipping / packaging / handling will be $15.00.
