We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful example of tiger sawn oak office furniture made by one of the better furniture companies back in the 1880s to 1910 era, Derby. Derby made many office pieces such as: file cabinets, chairs, flat tops, bookcase, sectionals and roll tops. Here is a great example of their workmanship. This desk is wider than normal, being 66 inches wide. It has a high-quality interior with better than average pulls. It has the most unusual option of the swing side tambour was infamous in the 1890s on this desk. When the tambour roll is hidden, you can swing the sides out to work off your companion file or library table. This has never been refinished. It is in the original dark finish and the varnish has worn off in a few places. There are stains on the top from the old-time ink bottles and a little discoloration on the center drawer. One of the pencil trays was missing the face and our cabinetmaker was able to recreate one that looks just like the original. This desk would be outstanding completely restored or refinished. Please contact us for a quote if you are interested in this service. The desk consists of four drawers on the left-hand side with handles, center drawer and the right-hand side has two regular drawers with a cleverly disguised two drawer that is a file drawer with a divider inside. The center drawer has a lock, but no key. The drawer bottoms are decent. It has thick quarter round columns on each side of the drawers, pull out writing surface that is better than average, at least 29 individual raised panels throughout and the roll has the Derby brass keyhole cover on the face. The lock to the tambour is missing, which is common. The interior is great with the four file cabinet drawers inside have the same detail carved handles as the big drawers. The file and letter holders are shown on both sides of the swing out sides and on the back in the middle of the cubby hole. Take a walk around this desk to see how this desk has a high quality, stout and sturdy look. The overall size is 66 inches wide, 36 inches deep and 52 inches high. The writing surface is 31 inches high. The leg room for your chair is 27 inches wide by 24 inches tall. The drawers are hand cut dove tail. Please view the photos to see the nuances of this Derby desk. Shipping starts at $485 for a driveway delivery in our normal New England delivery area.
