Bell Any Ice Today Ad 1936 This is a February 1936 advertisement. It is a nice black and white ad from Bell System. A street in Brooklyn had to be lowered 3 feet. Beneath the street stretched 3200 feet of telephone conduit which had to be lowered. Engineers called in an iceman to help. Lowering had to be done slowly. Unearthing each 500 foot section of the conduit between adjacent manholes, the engineers tunneled beneath it at six foot intervals. Into these tunnels the iceman fitted blocks of ice. Then the earth between the blocks was removed . They waited for the ice to melt. As the blocks became smaller, the conduit lowered without any strain. In mint condition. Photo is taken through plastic and may show wrinkles or crookedness that is not in the ad. This original magazine tear sheet measures 51/2 inches wide by 8 3/4inches tall.
