We got this a few years ago at an antique store because it was so bizarre and unusual that we had to have it. It never crossed our mind it was a pipe holder until a customer came in and pointed it out. It is very very heavy and large . It has a hole in the side for a cigar, or you can rest the pipe in the back ( see photo) Very mythical and over the top. One side has a mermaid and the other a merman which you don't see very often. It looks very renaissance. We used it to display jewelry so it has never ( while in our posession) been used for pipes. I am just guessing at the date. We are not experts on pipe holders. It looks to have shiny resin of some sort in it. It has horses and mermaids and what looks like dragon or fish heads. This is a great gift idea that shows you took the time to care about that special person in your life. It is classic and vintage and we even gift wrap it for you . Whether it is a memory from their past or something that reminds you of how special they are, it is a unique idea because it is vintage and not something you can buy everyday.
