A Bronze Cherub Playing a Pan Flute. Attributed to Edward Henry Berge

Possibly taken from a Childs fairy tale book, this little boy plays a Pan Flute while Frogs look up to him from the ground. This particular bronze statue is exceptionally well proportioned and was obviously modeled by a master that was extremely particular about casting. In all likelihood, this bronze was made for a garden, and could well have been the centerpiece for a fountain.
The attribution to Edward Henry Berge is based upon the style and the quality of the work, and also comparative pieces. Many of his works can be found in the City of Baltimore where he was born, mostly outside of public buildings. At John Hopkins University, his well known "Sea Horse" is displayed, and also the much admired Baltimore War Memorial, stands at the Cherry Hill Administration building,
