Brown & Sharpe Speed Indicator No. 748 w/Wood Case
$45.00
Offering this rare antique 1922 patent tachometer, speed indicator in it's original hardwood fitted box/case! The body of the tool is marked "LBS 748 BROWN & SHARPE MFG. CO. PROVIDENCE R.I. U.S.A. PATENTED NOV.28.1922". On the same side as this marking is a knurled thumb wheel in the center, this is used to reset true 0 before you begin a measurement. The front side has two measurement windows on the dial, and is designed to read up to 5,000 rpm, and all lower speeds as well. This is a fairly early model as later models had steel wrapped around the black tips, this one doesn't. One can use the steel tip that is not removeable, or the rubber tip supplied. The box has place for one more, but we only have the one rubber tip available in this sale, and it is in very good shape, as well as the steel tip on the indicator. The black hard rubber type fiber handle is removeable if you need to, it's in great shape. The plating on the indication is worn a bit, but it about 85% intact overall, the dial and all number and line markings are about 99% like new. The indicator was tested and works correctly, no damage, smooth running. The hardwood box is very nice! Very little wear, and clearly marked "BROWN & SHARPE MFG. CO. PROVIDENCE R.I. U.S.A." in gold and black lettering on the top cover section. It has good hinges and latch closure, made of select hardwood, very nice with very little wear!
