Buck Bros. Carpenter's Socket Framing Slick Chisel 2 inch

$120.00
Quantity available: 1

Nice old heavy duty 2" wide socket framing chisel/slick marked "BUCK BROTHERS CAST STEEL" on the steel and also marked "BUCK BROS." on the hardwood handle.  It is 14.75" long overall. It is from the late-1800's era and made in the laminated process with the distance in this case of 3.5" back from the cutting edge is lamination hardened tool steel on the bottom and softer (non-brittle) steel on the top.  It has been used but is in good working order. It has some minor edge dings and pitting in the steel, but the cutting edge area is in great shape. The cutting edge is straight, sharp and ready to use. There is no rust, very little wear, no damage on the steel. The handle is in solid condition, fits the socket very well and has an iron ring on the end that helps keep the hardwood from splitting or cracking. The handle is not cracked, has a few minor grain seperations, but test and is very sturdy. Buck Brothers is one of the well known edge tool makers, known for the quality of the steel and the process of lamination and tempering the steel for long use and lasting edge sharpness between sharpening. The back could be referred to a round-back since there is a large radius cut from center to edge on both sides.  One hard to find quality tool!
