$1,250.00
This fantastic framed oil on canvas is signed "Collins" and depicts a rainy evening street scene on State Street in San Francisco, circa 1898-1905, lit by street lamps and restaurants, with travelers on in horse-drawn carriage and an electric streetcar and the Call Building in the background. After the American painter, Gerald Harvey Jones (1933-2017). Built in 1898, the Call Building was for many years the tallest building in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River. The structure was badly burned and damaged by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, although the building did not collapse.

Jones was a very successful genre painter of landscapes and street scenes whose collectors included Lyndon B. Johnson, Margaret Thatcher, and Texas Governor John Connally.
