This Chinese rice grain porcelain (also known as grain de riz ware) bowl is made of thin porcelain and has finely carved rice-like holes which are covered with a transparent glaze. I believe that the process of making these holes a grain of rice is imbedded in the clay walls before firing. The rice grain burns away leaving the window. This bowl measures 2.5" tall 4.5" across the top. It is all hand painted with a basket motif in the center and faded marking in gold on the top, sides and bottom of the centered motif. The outside is decorated with scrolls and lines. There is gold trim on the top rim and at the top of the foot. It is marked on the bottom . The condition is very good. It appears there are 2 very small flea bite nick on the top rim. It is an interesting little piece with the Wanyu mark on the bottom.
