From 'Camera Work' no. 23 July, 1908. The model is Julia McCune Flory. Tipped to the original page..
A Photogravure is a hand-pulled print, similar to an etching, struck from a photo-engraved plate made either from the original negative or a print. 'Camera Work' is considered the journal of pictorialism, as well as the vanguard of America modernism. There were 50 numbers of the magazine published by Alfred Stieglitz between 1903 and 1917. Stieglitz personally inspected each gravure in each magazine before the issue was sent. At the height of the magazine's circulation, about 1000 copies were printed; at times of lower circulation, only about 250 copies were printed. Of these, far fewer remain extant, making the gravures collectible.
