Craftsman Carpenters Ratchet Auger Brace 10 Inch

This is a nice clean hand brace, and it has a 10" sweep. It is marked "CRAFTSMAN-10  MADE IN U.S.A." on the arm leading to the head handle. The ratchet system works great. The chuck is in good condition with a spring loaded double jaw inserts. This chuck is designed to hold both straight round shank and tapered square shank auger bits.  There is a V-shape on each of the jaws for holding round shank drill bits, so it is limited to about 1/8 to 3/8" diameter round shank drills.  The head is ball bearing drive, capped with a solid hardwood head handle, and a fluted aluminum crank handle with cast lettering "CRAFTSMAN" marked on it in 2 places. The condition is good++, with some wear (on the end stock handle finish mostly), some minor scratches, small dings and abount 90% nickel plating intact.  The head handle had a very thick varnish on it, some has worn off in places and we note one fairly deep scratch in that wood. Otherwise no damage, or cracks in the handles or metal parts. In really good working condition, a very good user tool also.  A quality made brace, still in great shape, nice looking too!   This type brace was designed for commercial use.  Recommend for a person who uses a brace often.
