A pair of massive Nias Shield from Nias Tengah Indonesia, each carved from a single Kayu Jati trunk. Circa 1970.

Aristocratic status shield, adorn with perception of the nine levels of Heaven & Death, for in the Nias believe, Lowalangi, Dewa Surga  is the highest and at the bottom end is Latura, Dewa Kematian / Death God. Example of Nias shield collection is shown below my description.
