Our large silverplated shield by Elkington and Company depicts The Pompeian Lady by Leonard Morel-Ladeuil which was designed for the Philadelphia Exhibition of 1876.  Diameter:  20 in; 50.8 cm.

Inscribed near the top REGISTRIRT IN DEN OESTERREICHEN KAISERSTAATEN, REGISTRIRT IM DEUTSCHEN REICH, DEPOSE EN FRANCE ZAHL 10, 297 DESIGN COPYRIGHTED IN THE UNITED STATES, NOVEMBER 1X76.

Marks include Morel-Ladeuil, invic Fecit, 1876, Elkington & Co. and the British patent mark.  

There are dents, scratches, rubbing wear to the silver plate and splits to the raised rim.
