Our bronze tripod stand by Emile Louis Picault (French, 1833-1915) features a scene in relief depicting Greek prisoners after the siege of Syracuse in 413 B.C. with the words "Olympias XCI Graeci Syracusis Captivi" (Olympias 91 Greeks from Syracuse Captive).  Signed "E. Picault, Exp." with abbreviations for the Exposition des Beaux Arts and "1863".

In good overall condition, with surface dirt in crevices, scratches, oxidation and stains, signs of verdigris,  and one mount missing from between the griffins on the lower stretcher.
