This appears to be an import item or a souvenir of a trip to Africa. It is a hand carved, ?ebonized wood letter opener. The head is of an unknown tribesman in what appears to be a headdress &/or mask. There is a silvertoned wire wrapped around the neck to simulat a neck ornament. It is aprox. 10 5/8"X3/4". There is a chip in the tip of the opener.
