Our oil on panel by the French painter and illustrator, Eugene Chaperon (1857-1938) depicts a leader saluting triumphant members of the Garde Nationale as he leads his army off the battlefield.  Panel measures approximately 16 by 30.  Frame measures 21 by 34.5 and dates from the mid-twentieth century.

Signed EUGENE CHAPERON 1903 in lower right.
