Heavy head forged in one piece with integral tapered round ferrule with turned edge. Leaf-shape 20" blade of flattened oval section, the obverse with engraved pattern of foliage. The reverse plain, but stamped with makers mark (partially obscured). Mounted on round-section 19th C shaft with 19th C textile covering, studded with brass head nails, and later tassel. Metal mostly smooth with some light rust. Provenance: Lowther Castle, Cumbria (England); sold at Bonhams, London, Sale 15786, Lot #103. An undecorated lance of similar form pictured in Armi Bianche Italiane, by Boccia/Coelho, Fig. 144. Overall length 95 1/2".
