Frantisek Drtikol "Kapitan Pruzz"

$2,500.00
Quantity available: 1

A rare male semi-nude figure by Frantisek Drtikol who was better known for his female nudes, often pictured against abstract painted backdrops. Unsigned, but accompanied by a letter of provenance and authenticity.
'Frantisek Drtikol (1883-1961) was a Czech photographer who had begun in photography when 'Art Nouveau' was the latest style, but had also taken in the ideas of later movements including Cubism and Constructivism. His work is often dramatic and graphic, the photography of a stage set than simply of the body. Sometimes their are actual constructions, objects built for the photograph, at other times the effects are produced by pose, props and the use of light and shadows.'
