Best Offer
Our client's antique ormolu bronze surtout-de-table mirrored plateau from the French Restauration period, circa 1820, and later mounted for use as a cocktail table with ebonized stained tapered wooden legs with square brass feet, is attributed to the celebrated artist and bronzier, Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1851-1843). Diameter 26 in, height 23 inches.
For a similar surtout de table attributed to Thomire, and mounted similarly on tapered legs for use at table, see lot 44 of Sotheby's sale in Paris on February 28, 2024, which closed at 12,700 euros. This example features the same flower head design on the frieze and same mount above each leg depicting a mask of Bacchus.
Other examples attributed to Thomire by Christie's exhibit the identical figurative and grapevine Bacchanal designs seen in our table.
