French Japonisme Peacock Form Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock

Unavailable

Our beautiful gilt bronze mantel clock in the Japonisme fashion dates from the 1880s, and is fashioned from cast and gilded bronze in the form of a peacock standing on onyx base with bamboo platform in bronze, with circular clock set upon the bird's back with coloreful dial featuring inlaid enamel. In good condition, with some areas of verdigris. No key. Report on clock movement and its working order provided upon request. Possibly from l'Escalier de Cristal of Paris. 12.5 x 6 x 5 in.

For a similar clock attributed to l'Escalier de Cristal, see lot 124 of Bonham's auction in London on December 5, 2014. This clock of the same size, apparently cast from the same model and also with onyx base, but different face, was offered with an estimate of 8,000-12,000 BP.
