Our charming work by Georges von der Straeten (1856-1928) depicts a lovely female on marble bench decorated with a large letter "N", the insignia of Napoleon, and features both gilt and silver-gilt surfaces.  Cast in Paris and signed.

In good condition, with surface dirt, scratches, rubbing wear and oxidation to the gilt and silver gilt surfaces.

Additional images forwarded upon request.

The artist was born in Ghent, Belgium, and studied with Jef Lambeaux (1852-1908). In the early 1880s he moved to Paris where he exhibited at the salon from 1885 through 1912. He won numerous medals, including a silver at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900. His works are often compared to those of the Italian artist, Emmanuel Villanis (1858-1914). In addition to the Societe des Bronzes, Pinedo and Friedrich Goldscheider reproduced his works.
