Grand Tour Bronze Boreas Abducting Oreithyia After Simon Louis Boizot

Unavailable

Our finely sculpted and cast bronze sculpture depicting Boreas Abducting Oreithyia, after the original model by Simon-Louis Boizot (1743-1809), dates from the last quarter of the nineteenth century.  It measures 22 1/2 by 10 by 12 inches (57 by 25.4 by 30.5 cm) and is in good condition. It has a dark brown patina, with some rubbing wear, scratches, and restorations to a hole on the side of the base and to the female's top arm.  Apparently unsigned.

The subject comes from Metamorphoses, the 8th century poem by the Roman poet, Ovid, a popular subject in antiquity and into the nineteenth century thanks partly to Boizot's sculpture.
