Constructed out of beautiful American solid black walnut, the bed includes the original side rails, the original casters, and four slats to support the mattress. The Jenny Lind Spool Style Solid American Black Walnut headboard measures, 43.50 inches h X 41.50 inches W X 80.50 inches L, and the footboard measures, 36.50 inches H X 41.50 inches W X 80.50 inches L, both in the original finish with appropriate wear for their age. The spool style bed was named after Jenny Lind (1820 – 1887), a Swedish opera singer known as the "Swedish Nightingale". Jenny started performing at the age of ten and during her visit to America in 1849, she was reported to have slept in a bed with turned spindles, leading to the naming of the style of crib or baby bed with vertical bars on all sides as a the "Jenny Lind crib".
