Large Antique Cameo BRooch of Apollo Victorian with laurel wreath

$220.00
Quantity available: 1
In  ancient  Greece and Rome, wreaths were used as an adornment that could represent a person’s occupation, rank, their achievements and status. The wreath that was commonly used was the laurel wreath. This cameo was obviously a man of high rank ( possibly Apollo? It became associated with what Apollo embodied; victory, achievement and status and would later become one of the most commonly used symbols to address achievement throughout Greece and Rome.      THis gentleman wears the headdress well and he has raised relief toga.  One of the larger cameos I have come across, this measures 2" tall and is gold over sterling. It's original C clasp was replaced at one time by a professional.    Carved of shell and arched slightly in the back of it, this is a really wonderful old piece of history and art.    VintageSparkles offers Layaway on all our Etsy pieces regardless of which site it comes from. All layaway payments will need to be in the form of a check or money order only.  Please remember that vintage & antique items are not mint, nor are they perfect but they sure are full of old history and charm.
