Large Paris Porcelain Vase with Roman Motif -- 22 in
Our lovely Paris porcelain vase from the second quarter of the nineteenth century features the painted scene of a Roman gladiator beside a queen reclined on recamier with her children beside her, in a temple with what appears to be the Bay of Naples in the distance. With fine gilt decorations throughout, and painted figural panels on the base on front and rear. 22.5 by 11.5 by 7 inches.
In good condition, with hairlines visible on the interior, rubbing wear to the gilt surfaces and scratches. Underside of the rim has been overglazed, suggesting the area was restored. There are signs of inpainting and overglazing on the base depicting the putti in the area of the trees. There is abrading, glaze and gilding losses to the lower section of the vase where it attaches to the stem of the base, suggesting a restoration. The screw and bolt are not original.
