Le Courage Militaire Barbedienne Bronze After Paul du Bois -- 42 in, 106 cm

Unavailable

Our 42 inch (106.8 cm) tall bronze of Le Courage Militaire after Paul du Bois (1829-1905) is a rare, large casting by Barbedienne, circa 1880.  With the Barbedienne circular stamped mark reading REDUCTION MECHANIQUE A. COLLAS and title on verso, LE COURAGE MILITAIRE, L'ORIGINAL EST A NANTES.

This is a rare large reduction of Dubois' iconic model, which originally formed part of the allegorical figures flanking the tomb of General de Lamoricière erected in 1879 in the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul in Nantes. It appears the size of the present bronze represents the largest version of the model cast by the Barbedienne Foundry; see F. Rionnet, Les Bronzes Barbedienne, Paris, 2016, p. 315, no. 693.
