Our amazing Patroclo table lamp for Artemide by Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) is fashioned from glass blown into metal mesh frame. The design debuted in 1976 and this particular lamp is believed to date from the 70s. Apparenty unsigned. With U.S. standard socket and wiring, including dial-form dimmer. Measures 17 in tall, 18.5 in wide and 11 in deep (43 by 47 by 28 cm).
Aulenti named the design after Patroclus (Patroclo in Italian), the figure from Greek mythology whose name means "the glory of the father". He was a hero of the Trojan War as described in The Iliad.
An example of this design resides in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
