Limoges Enameled and Gilt Bronze Perfume Casket
Our lovely French enameled glass and gilt bronze fragrance casket, no doubt from Limoges, dates from the 19th century and features gilt bronze mounts and interior with six perfume bottles with stoppers. The lid features a scene depicting gentlemen travelers apparently conducting a trade. The front depicts angels beside a blue family crest with fleur-de-lis, and rear features the profile of a distinguished woman representing the family matriarch. In good condition, with rubbing wear to the gilding and scratches.
It has been speculated the gentleman represents the return of a prodigal son.
