Tomahawk Hatchet Ax Double Edged 6 inch

This is a very nice primitive hand forged and tempered tomahawk with two separate 2.25" wide cutting edges. This model is hand formed and has a primitive appearance as the form hammer marked have not been smoothed down like you would see on a factory made model. The handle socket is tapered to match the handle taper so in effect the use of this hatchet head tightens the head to the handle for a very snug fit. Like an foot adze the tapered socket allows fairly simple removal of the handle for storage or replacement as there is no need for steel wedges that would be used on hammers and hatchets from the past to hold the handle onto the head. The handle is an elliptical shape, as is the socket, and the handle shape is consistent for the full 13" length. The handle is very nice quality hardwood, no cracks of damage, some file marks and minor dings, but overall suits the purpose intended quick well. Since this ax is not marked by the maker, it is difficult to tell the age, but I can say that even if it is a replica of a American Tomahawk, it most likely is at least 50 years old. The steel is not damaged or cracked, nicely formed, no rust.

There are two of these available, the price and shipping cost is for one.
