Large Mamluk Islamic Tinned Copper Basin

$2,200.00
Quantity available: 1

Our large Mamluk basin dates from the late 15th to 16th century, likely of Syrian or Egyptian origin, is crafted from hand-hammered tinned copper and features engraved cartouches and strapwork, including Arabic poetry.

One of the largest and finest Mamluk period works we've seen in our 20 years in business.

For a similar basin of Mamluk origin from the same period, see lot 22 of Sotheby's sale in Paris on May 16, 2019, a tinned copper basin measuring 19 in (46 cm) in diameter which was offered with an estimate of 3,000-4,000 euro, and closed at 35,000.
