Massive China Trade Silver Dressing Service

$6,200.00
Quantity available: 1
Made for export around 1870, this 11-piece dressing set, in its original lacquer fitted case, is of extraordinary purity (approximately 950/1000) and weight, the powder box alone weighing in at about 11 ounces. Featuring finely martèle surfaces within plain borders, the decoration is elegantly reserved. Each of the brushes – two hair brushes, a clothes brush and a hat brush – retains its original silk-brocade cartonnage bandeau, and packing papers bear the advertising of the maker, Hung Chong and Company, Shanghai. There are also a hand mirror, a silver-mounted ivory comb, glove stretchers, a button hook, a shoe horn, a powder box with vermeil interior and a velvet-lined jewel box. The condition is superb, almost if the set has never been used.
