This wonderful table was created by the designer, Maurice Champion (French, 1899-1962), circa 1930s, and features three saber-shaped legs joined by stretcher, and circular top with rosewood veneer in geometric starburst motif.   It measures 30" across and 21" tall, and is in very good condition.  There are scratches and small dents, consistent with age and use.  Purchased by our client at the prestigious Macklowe Gallery of 667 Madison Avenue, New York, NY, in 1999 for $8,500. Maurice Champion was born in Le Raincy in 1899. He was a highly respected decorator and self-taught artist.  He is said to have won a gold medal at Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (International Exposition dedicated to Art and Technology in Modern Life) in Paris in 1937.  His works have appeared at major exhibitions of French Art Deco design around the world, and also periodically at major auction.
