Millers Falls Carpenters Brace Ratchet 10 inch Swing

This is a nice clean ratchet brace marked "MILLERS FALLS CO. MILLERS FALLS MASS PAT'D ....18. " on the chuck.  It appears there was two patent dates list, but too lightly engraved to see.   It has good, solid, clean, cocobolo hardwood handles both in very good solid condition with someminor dings and wear.  This model is one of few that has the set screws feature on the swing handle end brackets.  This allows you to open the area inside to add oil if so desired. The brace is 14.5" long overall and a 10" diameter swing. This is a clean brace, with no rust, some minor pitting, little wear, good clean darkened metal surfaces. Note:  There is a flaw in the steel ball bearings carrier, it apears like a chipped off area, but I think it was original since there is no sign of any other type of damage in that area and I believe it would take a hard hit to crack this steel in the flange area.  All the bearings are intact and the spindle turns very smoothly.  A good working 2-jaw chuck (spring loaded jaws) and ratchet system. The head end handle is ball bearing type bushing, spins freely. An upper mid-range quality tool that is still in very good working condition, looks nice too.  Most likely patented in 1918.
