Ancient 2nd - 3rd century A.D. Gandhara finely sculpted in grey schist stone figure of a seated Buddha.

The haloed Buddha Shakyamuni seated in in meditation posture dhyanasana with his hands folded in his lap and his feet covered by the pleated robe, the folds of the sanghati flowing over both shoulders, revealing the anatomy of his torso, and covering his legs, the wavy hair tied in a bun over the ushnisha, seated on a throne carved with going downwards stylized geometrical pattern.

Provenance: from a private Canadian collection

MEASUREMENTS:

Height: 27 cm (10.63 inches).

Width: 17 cm (6.69 inches.

Weight: 1.972 kg (4.3475 Lb.).

CONDITION: Broken off at one of the throne corners, minor chips, as one would expect from an 1800-year-old stone sculpture. Showing its excellent age patina.

PROVENANCE: Ex Private old Canadian collection of antiques and antiquities formed in the 1980s. The previous owner bought this relief from the Canadian estate sale together with other Gandhara gray schist stone sculptures which are for sale in our online gallery. A large Buddha head (A1414) and the Figure of Seated Buddha (A1412), (A1413).

The sculpture is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
