Ancient Byzantine ( Eastern Roman Empire) early Christian Bronze Oil Lamp 5th - 6th Century A.D. It features an omega-shaped body with a wide, flanged edge engraved on the upper surface with scroll designs. The lamp is also adorned with four flanges that resemble eagle beaks, although one of the flanges is broken.

The front of the lamp features a long, projecting, upturned single nozzle. The back has a ring handle topped with an upright cross that has flaring arms, all set within an openwork frame shaped like a leaf, though the top of the frame is slightly damaged.

Below the cross is a hinge for a lid, which is now missing.

The lamp is supported by a hollow circular foot.

Inside the oil compartment, there is a knob finial designed in the shape of a perching Roman Imperial Eagle.

MEASUREMENTS:

Overall length: 20 cm (7.87 inches).

Height: 13 cm (5.12 inches).

CONDITION: This item shows signs of age and usage, featuring a dark brown and green patina. There are no repairs or restorations.
