Our client's tremendous sculpture in terracotta byGustave-Joseph Chéret (1838-1894) depicts a maiden or goddess at the bow of a gondola boat with putti clinging to the sides.  22 by 21.5 by 8.5 inches.  In excellent condition. Particularly clean for a work of its age.

Cheret worked in the second half of the 19th Century. He was the younger brother of the painter Jules Chéret. From 1887 onwards he was a member of the artistic management of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. He also worked for the ceramist Joseph-Théodore Deck.
