Rare 16th-17th century antique Safavid Islamic wine carafe (surāhī) from Transoxiana, crafted from cast, forged, and turned openwork copper alloy.

Featuring a spherical body that rests on a splayed foot, which has a central bulbous ring, the tall, ribbed tubular neck is adorned at both the top and bottom with openwork bands displaying a typical Safavid pattern of four-petaled blossoms.

The top band with remains of turquoise stone inlays suggests that the bottle may have been adorned with turquoise stones, possibly added later.

The bottle consists of several components: a cast and turned base, and the spherical body, made of two halves, is decorated on the shoulder with a turned design and joined at the middle.

The neck features a ribbed tubular section, two pierced bands, a serrated mouth, and a disc-shaped lip.

Many Indo-Persian miniatures, including those from the Timurid, Safavid, and Mughal eras, depict aristocrats and wine bearers holding long-necked bottles of similar shapes. These bottles were made from copper alloy, glass, silver, and ceramic.
