A rare and complete ensemble of antique, late 16th- early 17th Century, European, most likely German, wrought iron horse curb bit with a leather harness.

DETAILS: superbly hand-forged, made of iron curb bit mouthpiece bar with articulated, u-shaped port, three rings on one side, and one ring on the other side.

Elaborated side cheek-pieces of excellent and precise wrought ironwork in characteristic form, shaped in the middle of the shanks with stylized lion's heads and affixed with two slobber chains, hooks and suspension rings. The rawhide harness with black leather bands, finely hand-sewn with leather straps with punched holes set in white bone eyelets. The headpiece adorned with three fringed tassels.

CONDITION: Age and usage are showing. Dark brown rusty oxides finish on the wrought iron parts. Two roller rings on one side of the mouthpiece are missing.
