Quantity available: 1

Antique, 19th century Islamic Persian Qajar dynasties period, Shiraz glass saddle flask, hand-blown of brown, color glass. The flattened ovoid form body rising to the neck with flaring mouth applied with trailed spiral decoration in the form of a snake with open jaws. Very high kick base large snapped pontil.

Thick glass bottles such as this example were used for transporting liquids as wine or water across distances. The thickness of the body rendered them sturdy and virtually unbreakable. A unique feature of such bottles is that they were not intended to stand on a surface, flattened shape conform to animal side. They were packed, in saddle bags, and carried on the back of an animal such as a horse, camel, or a donkey.
