A rare, antique, 18th-century, Armenian, gold gilt silver, filigree jeweled reliquary cross pendant in the distinctive form of an Armenian Khachkar cross.
The cross pendant of box-like construction to place a relic is composed of several separate elements made of elaborate silver-gilt delicate filigree work of an excellent precision wire twisted & soldered with a scrolling pattern pearl-shaped knobs set with various color faceted paste jewels.
One-half of the cross is hinged at the top and secured with a locking pin at the base, fitted at the top with a loop with a fine twisted silver chain for suspension.
Armenian antiques have always been considered unique, rarely on sale, and almost impossible to get.
REFERENCES: A related Armenian, silver-gilt, filigree, and gem-set cross, dating to the 18th century, not as large and fine as this cross, was sold for £2,400 by Bonhams London Islamic & Indian Art, April 19, 2007, LOT 203.
Effective British Pound / US Dollar exchange rate on April 19, 2007: 1 GBP = 2.0026 USD, so £2,400 was roughly $4800. It's worth pointing out that fourteen years ago, the prices of antiques were lower than they are today.

DIMENSIONS: including suspension loop: 77 mm x 62 mm x 16 mm (3.03 inches x 2.44 inches x 3/8 in x 0.53 inches).
Chain's length (folded): 39 cm (15.35 inches).
WEIGHT: 64 grams, including chain.
CONDITION: In its original condition, showing age and usage, the gold gilding is slightly worn with an old dark patina. No repairs or restorations.
Since the pictures were taken under studio lighting, the cross is darker and not as bright as in the photos.
