Antique 18th Century Silver Cross Pendant In The Form Of Reliquary Cross
$700.00
Antique late 18th-century, finely handcrafted silver Roman Catholic cross pendant with a hollow box-like construction in the form of a reliquary cross.
The front side is engraved with a Sacred Heart at the center flanked by the initials AM, which stands for Ave Maria (Latin: Hail Mary), and the tree of life at the base.
The other side of the cross features an engraving of a tree of life with flowers and a cartellino inscribed with INRI, a Latin abbreviation for Jesus Nazarenus, Rex Judeorum (Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews).
The three terminals of the cross are adorned with small rings.
The cross does not open, indicating that the relic was likely placed inside before the two halves were soldered together. The bottom side of the cross has a pierced hole, and the top has a flat suspension loop and a movable ring. The flat suspension loop and the ring are stamped with an illegible silver hallmark.
