Exceptional and rare antique18th century, North India. Islamic Mughal Indian jade-hilted Damascus steel Sosun pattah . The hilt, crafted in the shape of a horse's head, is finely carved from a single piece of semi-translucent green jade. It features various shades of green and brown, along with natural inclusions and veins. The short steel crossguard includes an integral ferrule that is exquisitely gold damascened in koftgari foliage, showcasing a typical Mughal pattern.

Exceptional quality, sturdy recurved blade, hand-forged from Damascus crucible steel exhibiting very fine wootz patter. Both faces at the forte are adorned with elegantly shaped panels, finely gold damascened in koftgari foliage.
The construction of this sword, its weight, and the shape of the blade featuring a very sharp cutting edge make it perfectly suitable for slashing and chopping.
The Sosun Pattah is one of the rarest and most sought-after Indian swords. Most examples originate from Punjab, particularly Lahore, which was the center of the Sikh Empire.

The name "Sosun Pattah" literally means "lily leaf," reflecting the elegant curves of the blade. The design of the Sosun Pattah blade is thought to be influenced by the ancient Greek Macedonian sword known as the Kopis, which dates back to the time of Alexander the Great, as well as the Turkish Ottoman Yataghan sword.

CONDITION: The item shows signs of age and use. The gold damascening and koftgari are intact. However, the jade hilt is chipped at the base near the iron ferrule, and there are some spots with minor light pitting. There is some visible forging and natural inclusion in the blade.
