A very scarce antique 19th century( 1856 – 1869) cased set of British Victorian full dress shoulder epaulets for the officers with a higher rank (possibly a general) of the "Commissariat Staff," 1856 - 1869 (later ASC) made by: HAMBURGER ROGERS & CO GOLD LACE and ARMY ACCOUTREMENT MANUFACTURERS by appointment to THE QUEEN, 30 King Street, Covent Garden, LONDON.

Each epaulet consists of a padded base, topped with embroidered black velvet bullion, bearing VTR cipher in gold embroidery on silver lace, with a gold gilt bullion crescent and gold gilt coiled wire spring tassels.

Each has a gold-plated button with the crown of Queen Victoria of the Commissariat staff officer.

The underside of the epaulets is lined with red fabric, boards, covered with burgundy Moroccan leather, and gilt brass attachment bars marked Right and Left with blued steel springs.

Epaulets are in their original, black-painted tin box with a carrying handle and lock bracket. The interior is lined with a leather chamois with a manufacturer's paper label on the lid "HAMBURGER ROGERS & CO GOLD LACE and ARMY ACCOUTREMENT MANUFACTURERS by appointment to THE QUEEN, 30 King Street, Covent Garden, LONDON".

There are some brass accessories and a cord in the box, but of unknown purpose to me.

CONDITION: Shows age and usage. The epaulets are in overall near excellent condition except for some wear of the red underside fabric, and the black paint on the outside of the box is worn.
