Antique 19th century Native North American Plains Indians,(possibly Siouk) stone Peace Pipe, and beaded buckskin pipe bag.
Hand carved in two sections and bonded together L-shaped steatite stone bowl with slight flare to prow, adorned with lead inlayed ring. The carved pipe stem of natural wood carved in relief with two elliptical loops design displaying a lovely glossy patina.
CONDITION: in overall good condition showing the age and usage with a beautiful old patina from sweat and grease. The stone bowl slightly chipped, deposit of old glue on the join of the two sections. The mouthpiece of the wooden stem is chipped. Additionally, the leather strap appears to be a later addition.
MEASUREMENTS (approximately).
Overall length: 47.5 cm (18.7 inches)
Dimensions of the stone head (approximately): 11.5 cm x 10.5 cm (4.53 x 4.13 inches).
A tanned hide pipe bag beaded with sinew-sewn seed glass beads along the seams. Each side of the base adorned with a panel of beadwork decorated with crosses and geometrical pattern, bordered with short fringes at the top and the lengthy fringe on the bottom. some minor bead loss.
CONDITION:
In overall good condition showing the age and usage with a beautiful old patina from sweat and grease, some loss to beadwork along the upper seams.
