An antique early 19th-century French First Empire Napoleonic Circa 1810 A.D military officer's gunpowder horn flask, crafted in the distinctive First French Empire style.
The flask is crafted from pressed, hollowed-out cattle horns and mounted in gilt-bronze (ormolu) relief.
The front side of the object is decorated with a gold gilt-bronze plaque. The plaque is pierced, hand-chiseled in low relief, and engraved with a martial trophy in First Empire style. It features a flag, a French First Empire Napoleonic officer hat “Bicorn”, flintlock gun “Carbine”, Hussar sword with stirrup hilt, a gunpowder horn flask in the same style as this flask and surrounded by oak leaves.
The flask is mounted with a gilt-bronze buttplate, with the frame adorned with elaborate designs. The tip of the flask has an elaborately shaped ormolu bronze nozzle adorned with petals.On the flask's upper side are two gilt bronze suspension rings.
